Nylon R-AM combines one of toughest, most durable coatings on the market with the proven antimicrobial protection of Biomaster. Nylon Colours is able to supply the full range of colours and grades of its Rilsan® based coatings in an antimicrobial formulation.

The slow release properties of the Biomaster technology means that the antimicrobial properties of the coating will be effective for the lifetime of the product to which it is applied. It is an integral part of the coating and will not wear off or leach out.

Applications where Nylon R-AM coatings can help reduce the spread of harmful microbes include:

  • Healthcare helping to prevent hospital acquired infections
  • Food and catering reducing the risk of food poisoning
  • In the home household appliances, door handles
  • Schools and nurseries it is diffi cult to prevent children from spreading infections, so it makes sense to make their environment more hygienic.

The antimicrobial action is effective against bacteria, fungi and moulds including:

- MRSA
- E.coli
- Listeria
- Proteus vulgaris
- Salmonella
- Enterococcus

- Campylobacter
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa
- Legionella
- Aspergillus niger
- Candida albicans

Nylon coatings have been used for many years in applications requiring superior resistance to abrasion, corrosion and impact. The resistance to abrasion has been independently tested and shown to be ten times that of standard powder coatings.

The surface of a nylon coating is already smooth and easy to clean, and has a warmer, more pleasant feel to it than other coatings.

It is highly resistant to solvents and chemicals such as alcohol based cleaners and fluorinated anaesthetics. Nylon R-AM is based on Arkema’s Rilsan® Polyamide 11, a biomass-based polymer manufactured from a renewable resource (castor oil) minimising its environmental impact. Rilsan® has received the “Biomass Based” label from JORA (Japan Organics Recycling Association).

Silver-based biocidal technology
The Biomaster technology used in Nylon R-AM is based on silver ions encapsulated in ceramic glass. This gives prolonged activity even after repeated washing and heat cycling.
